On Friday, August 31, 2012, members of the TPS Fugitive Squad and the Canada Border Services Agency arrested a wanted man.

Martin Ivor Hughes, 53, was wanted by Essex Police in the United Kingdom on nine counts of wire fraud offences.

Essex Police had issued a warrant for his arrest on September 20, 2010.

It is alleged that:

– since that time, Hughes had eluded arrest, having fled to the United States.

– Hughes then fled to Canada as a visitor sometime in April 2011 and has remained in Canada since then.

– between July 2003 and January 2004, the accused defrauded victims of approximately 489,000 pounds in the United Kingdom.

The accused was located at a commercial business in Toronto.

He is being held in custody awaiting immigration proceedings.
