First of the three test vehicle to tried by the Toronto Transit Commission has reached the city. The new streetcar has already spread anxiety as the Toronto’s transit-hungry community gets ready for the upgrade. This new streetcar has been received at the Canadian Pacific rail yard near Runnymede Rd. and Dundas St. on Tuesday. It will have to sit there until it is lifted onto a flatbed and transported during the night over the TTC’s Hillcrest yard at Bathurst St. and Davenport Rd.

The future of this new streetcar after reaching the Hillcrest yard is not yet disclosed by the TTC. The local community of Toronto has already begun gossiping, reporting and sharing photos of this new streetcar. The particular vehicle is still technically the property of Bombardier, its manufacturer, as it is just one of the three beta vehicles promised for testing purpose only.

According to TTC spokesperson Brad Ross, “We are a streetcar city and at the TTC we’re very excited to be receiving this test vehicle and we’re looking forward to get the vehicles out in service.” Ross further added that “there’s a lot of work that has to happen. There will be phases when people will see them on the street.” He clarified that the testing phase might take up till 2014, after when the TTC customers might be able use them, perhaps on the 510 Spadina route first.

Ross stated that the new cars will be better exhibited in detail for media in the coming two or three weeks. Ross declared that these “new cars are air-conditioned, will board from all doors, be fully accessible, low-floor and because they’re longer, they have more room for riders. “
