The water supply line of a portion of the Plateau Mont Royal district had to be suspended due to extraordinary circumstances since 4 a.m. on Thursday morning, and might still remain suspended until 4 p.m. The suspension of water lines is due to a rupture in the main water line on Laval Ave. between Mont-Royal Ave. E. and Marie-Anne St. City work crews are already doing the repairs and they confirm that no causality has occurred in the incident and neither was any property flooded.

Constable Anie Lemieux of Montreal police made a statement on Thursday morning stating that the pipes, which are allegedly extremely old, burst at 4 a.m. and crews did not have any other option than to suspend the water supply to put the repairs in effect. The exact area under effect of this water suspension covers from Laval between Mont-Royal and Marie-Anne to Marie- Anne between Hôtel de Ville Ave. and Laval. Officials estimate a total of 60 households to be in the area.

It was learned that Police had to make a door to door tour of each household on the street just to get remove the parked cars off from the narrow street in the region of the crack beforehand, just to get the repairs trucks through. One of the city workers mentioned that the deadline of 4 p.m. is a very conservative approximation and hopefully supply line will be restored before that. Residents of the area have alleged that the water lines are at least 100 years old.
