TTC has extended the last stop of Toronto’s extended Spadina subway line and it will now be called ‘Black Creek Pioneer Village Station,’ even though the stop is actually almost a half kilometer aside from the attraction. TTC commissioners held a voting on their meeting scheduled on Thursday and renamed the previously called Steeles West subway station to Black Creek Pioneer Village against the advice of TTC staff. For those who are not liking the new name of the station, be thankful for it could have been a lot worse since the suggestions which came later in the debate got sillier over the time.

Staff initially suggested that the stations shall be named as Sheppard West, Downsview Park, Finch West, York University and Steeles West. During the discussion TTC staff had to notify the councilors for not using alternative subway station names which could be easily confused. But soon Councilor, Anthony Perruzza, convincingly requested the committee that councilors shall name Finch West station as ‘University Heights’ and ‘Black Creek Pioneer Village’ for Steeles West. TTC commissioner Maria Augimeri finally passed the motion of changing the four of the five suggested station names.

Lastly commissioners voted to conclude with these names the staff had recommended for the Spadina Subway extension except for Steeles West which will now be called Black Creek Pioneer Village Station. The finalized names of the stations in the motion were as follows, in order of north: Downsview, Chesswood, University Heights, York University and Black Creek Pioneer Village.
