Windsor Police Fraud unit has handled several complaints in the last several days regarding money wiring scams. Often, complainants are receiving calls from persons claiming to be a relative that is out of town and in trouble. The caller provides a code and convinces the complainant to wire cash to them. The cash is wired to some remote unknown location that is difficult to track.
Police are reminding the public to be leery of any such phone contact where a request is made to wire money. Money should only be wired if it is you that is initiating the transaction or if you are positive of the destination that it is being sent.
