Police has officially confirmed that the man assaulted on his residence in River Heights on early Monday morning has passed away. The 25-year-old man was admitted in the hospital with a very critical condition, as he ended up in a fight during a family gathering on Lindsay Street. Police is expected to make an official statement this morning about an arrest in the case.

According to the Winnipeg police department, the incident took place at a house in the 100 block of Lindsay at 2:10 a.m. on Monday. The victim endured severe upper-body injuries and was quickly admitted to the hospital. Police Const. Jason Michalyshen described that it looked like a family gathering where a confrontation took place. Officers are investigating whether the assault took place inside the house or outside on the street. Several suspicious items were lying outside the house, including an old chair, a red tool box and plastic debris. Michalyshen stated that “It does appear people at the home knew each other. There are no indications this was a random act.”

The records show that the home was registered to a Winnipeg couple, which they had rented to their daughter. They asserted that their daughter was living in the home since roughly five years. The police called and asked them to pick her child from the scene shortly after 2 a.m. The woman’s father reports that “she called us quickly to say something happened.”
