A man involved in a pedestrian-vehicle collision two weeks ago has passed away.

Just before 6 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, a pedestrian was struck as he crossed eastbound on Elbow Drive by a vehicle turning off 75 Avenue S.W. It appears the low sun was in the driver’s eyes and she failed to see the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in non-life-threatening condition but deteriorated and was downgraded to critical condition.

Alberto Sotelo, 66, of Calgary, died in hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate the collision. Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision; however, the low sun is thought to have played a role.

No further details are available at this time.
