One of the most influential Montreal mobsters has been gunned down in a suburb north of the city. The Police confirmed the identity of a dead body found on the driveway of a home in Blainville, Que., roughly 50 kilometers north of Montreal, just after 9 p.m. Sunday evening.

70-years-old Joseph “Joe” Di Maulo is a known member of the Mafia in Montreal. A reporter claims that “he was known to be the No. 2 in the Mafia. He’s been involved in the business since the 70.” Di Malo is the brother-in-law of Raynald Desjardins, who was indicted with a murder charge in 2011 for murdering former Bonanno crime family boss Salvatore Montagna.

The initially suspicious death of wanted mafia boss, Di Maulo, has been officially confirmed by the Canadian Press, is now being investigated by the Quebec provincial police as a homicide. The Surete du Quebec is leading the investigation of the case, taking charge only an hour after the body surfaced. Unconfirmed sources claim that Di Maulo was gunned down, with a minimum of two gunshots inflicted to his head.

The city of Montreal has always been a playground for mafia groups and has is staging the role of a backdrop for several Mafia-related clashes in recent years. One of the most notorious mob bosses, Vito Rizzuto, returned back to Canada in early October after completing his five years sentence in Colorado on charges of racketeering and conspiracy. During his sentence, based on triple murder of three New York City Mafia members, both his father and son were murdered in Montreal.
