The Bombardier Recreational Products has confirmed that one of their employees who was severally injured from the explosion, which took place on last Friday at its laboratory in Valcourt, Que was kept in hospital since, has now passed away.

The company announced that 38-years-old Sebastien Tardif, who was a father of two, died on Saturday due to the injuries resulting from the explosion at the Valcourt, Que., research facility. Another 54-year-old security guard fell victim to the vicious fire was also injured during the blast, and is now still kept in intensive care unit, ICU, and is fighting for his life in the burn unit of Quebec City’s Enfant-Jésus hospital.

Tardif was working as an operator of dynamometer, i.e. an instrument used to measure torque. The company has already declared that it has ordered strict investigation for finding out what caused the blast during the night shift at the facility. Furthermore, the province’s workplace health and safety commission are also investigating the incident along with help from local fire department.

The research centre has been shut down since the incident, but the company states that its manufacturing operations are still functioning and not affected. The company released a statement showing condolences for the deceased and his family and friends. It also mentioned that the company has offered to fully support the deceased family and fellow employees.

BRP was spun off by Bombardier Inc. in 2003. The Valcourt plant produces Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Sea-Doo jet skis and Can-Am all-terrain vehicles and is located about 130 kilometres east of Montreal.
