Nik Lewis of the Calgary Stampeders have been fined for making a comment on Twitter that was a ‘little too far.’ The Canadian Football League made the announcement on Wednesday declaring that they have decided to take action against the Tweet made posted by Lewis, as it is unacceptable and stands in complete violation of the league’s social media policy.

The controversial tweet of the Stampeders’ slotback was made on Monday, saying that “I just bought OJ’s gloves on eBay. Now all I need is a white girl named Nicole.” The tweet also included a hashtag: #maybealittletofar. From the reaction of the team and league, one thing is sure that it was actually too far for them.

The Stampeders has scheduled to deal with the issue of the tweet during practice today, as the team prepares for Sunday’s Western final against the B.C. Lions. It is explicitly stated in the social media policy of the Canadian Football League that all posts that are public should be treated as if the player was being interviewed. The policy narrates that “If a player, team employee or league employee uses social media … in a manner that may bring the CFL into disrepute, including posts that condone harassment, discrimination or violence, are obscene or sexually explicit, or divulge proprietary information or disparage the league, teams, officials, players, employees or fans, they will be subject to discipline from the Commissioner’s Office.”

Khalif Mitchell, another player of B.C. Lions, has been fined previously by the CF as it also suspended him from the team after he made a disparaging reference to people of Chinese descent.
