The critics of government’s spending have shown extreme suspicion about the newly-submitted receipts of the premier’s travels to Europe over the summer. They are alleging that the taxpayers’ money is being spent in a lavish manner on these trips, which is not properly accounted.

The province officially released the budget and receipts of the trip by Premier Alison Redford and other MLAs to the Olympics, totaling more than $500,000. But still the critics are blame that numerous receipts are being left out. These left out documents were specifically asked for by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation almost a months ago.  Derek Fildebrandt of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation declared that “they’ve thrown up as many road blocks as possible, so we can found out what they have already spent.”

The receipts officially submitted to the federation include expenses of $12,551.51 for flights, $1,860.00 for hotels and £3629.19 ($5773.68 CAD) for a car service, which all sums up to more than $23,000. But now the critics claim that meal receipts should have also been included in the documents. Fildebradt asserted that “we don’t want to put on our tinfoil hats and accuse the government of a cover up, but we do know they have blocked us at every turn, so when the premier files all these expenses for flights, for hotels but doesn’t file anything for food.”

NDP’s MLA, David Eggen, stated that “we get this all the time, when we get stonewalled on information we need to know about the government.” He added “so they say they are transparent up to here, and then it becomes pitch black.”
