The holiday season has ramped up the preparation of charities received from numerous donations. Amidst the hike of the season, the police are currently investigating a theft of more than $2 million in toys from a Salvation Army warehouse in North York.

The charitable organization, Toronto Salvation Army, has scheduled to update the general public through a news conference scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the topic of these alleged thefts. The supposed robbed toys have gone missing over a time period of two years from the Salvation Army Railside Road warehouse, near Lawrence and Victoria Park avenues. In addition to the toys, sources claim that food items and other donations were also stolen as well.

The whistleblower that unraveled the mystery of the on-going fraud is believed to be an employee of Salvation Army officials. The issue of missing toys was found out during an internal audit and the thefts were confirmed. The Railside Road facility sorts and distributes donations. The Executive Director of The Railside facility, David Rennie, has been fired after the audit, although his resignation is not yet publicly linked to the thefts.

There is no information about the charges levied in the case. The incident is brought to light when the organization is preparing for its annual Christmas kettle campaign. The Salvation Army has been helping Canadian families over the holiday season for 130 years. The situation in Toronto comes after the Salvation Army in Ottawa fired its executive director after an internal audit showed $240,000 went missing from that organization over eight years.
