An RCMP officer investigating a single vehicle collision on the Bedford By-Pass Highway 101 at Rocky Lake Road this morning was seriously injured when an oncoming vehicle lost control and hit the parked police cruiser with emergency lights activated. As a result of this collision, the RCMP officer standing near his cruiser was struck and catapulted into the ditch.

At approximately 05:30 a.m. RCMP and HRP officers were on the scene of a single vehicle collision where the driver lost control of his vehicle and landed in the ditch. Both the driver and passenger were not hurt and the cause of the crash was attributed to slippery road conditions.

While standing at the scene of the initial crash, an approaching motorist lost control of her vehicle and hit the police cruiser which hit the RCMP officer, sending him over a 30 foot embankment on rocks and tree stumps.

The officer was transported to the QE II hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries.  Road conditions were very slippery at the time of the collisions and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.

The RCMP reminds motorists to adjust their speed  to weather and road conditions.
