Local Police has praised the spectators who successfully intervened an attempted planned kidnapping on Wednesday afternoon carried out against a 3-year-old boy at an Outremont park. Constable Dany Richer made an announcement on Thursday morning, declaring 48-years-old father of the victim also participated in the successful chase of the 51-year-old man who attempted to kidnap the child. The suspect is believed to make a court appearance on Thursday afternoon.

The victim has been indicted with several charges, including attempted kidnapping, holding, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. Richer explained that the incident occurred in F.X. Garneau Park, around the corner of Côte Ste. Catherine Rd. and Outremont Ave., almost around 4 p.m. The suspect could not rush “several metres” before he was intercepted, wrestled down and held for police. Richer acknowledged that “other citizens came to help.” He elaborated that “Investigators have been able to determine that the suspect targeted the family,” Richer said. “But the family did not know the suspect.”

Richer avoided answering the question about whether the kidnapping attempt tried to demand a ransom demand, and whether any accomplices were involved. Richer was also unable to answer why the family was specially targeted, other than the age of the father and son. Richer assured that both father and son “are in a good condition,” since they did not sustain any serious injuries. Furthermore, Richer chose not to disclose the weapon or weapons which provoked the possession and assault charges. Search warrants are possible as the investigation continues, Richer said.
