A former officer of Calgary police department, who was previously imprisoned for possession of child pornography, has been re-arrested and indicted with several new charges, including child pornography and sexual assault. The charges were laid by the Calgary Police Service’s domestic conflict unit after an almost year-long investigation initiated in January 2012, in response to allegations of a 50-years-old woman that alleged to be being criminally harassed by her ex-boyfriend.

The arrest of 58-years-old Stephen Huggett was made on Friday, as the police executed the warrant at his home in Willow Park. Huggett is charged with one count of each sexual assault with a firearm, extortion, criminal harassment and possession of child pornography. Further information about the incident will be presented to media in a press conference scheduled on Monday afternoon. Previously, Huggett was imprisoned in 2009 for nine months after a judge announced that retired officer collected child pornography for viewership, while Huggett failed to imply that he collected the videos and images for a mission to save the victims.

Judge Barbara Veldhuis mentione in the ruling announced in August 2009, that “Mr. Huggett was aware what he was participating in was a criminal offence. It took place over a long period of time.” Judge added that “he had the child pornography, he kept it. There is absolutely no evidence he did anything of a legitimate nature with it. By that, I mean furthering any investigation within any police agencies, or turning the evidence over to a police agency on his retirement or at any point his investigation reached a dead end.”
