Progressive Conservative Leader, Tim Hudak, made an announcement on Thursday disclosing a new policy paper which will reduce the cheques of able-bodied people relying on welfare for long periods, with hopes of giving them a push and motivation to find jobs. Hudak mentioned that through this 22-page document, “we want to decrease the incentives to remain on welfare, so they should see their benefits steadily decline.”

Hudak explained that if Tories are elected in the upcoming race, they will be consulting with numerous experts relevant to the field and decide on when to begin and to what extent. Hudak alleged that “we’ll get their best advice on what those stages should be,” while also calling for the welfare recipients to be allowed food cards, similar to bank cards pre-loaded with cash, for a portion of their benefits “to make sure the dollars are going toward their intended purpose” and as a anti-fraud measure. He added that working welfare recipients shall be allowed to keep their earned income each month, getting a “toehold” in the labour market, while supporting the recommendation of reducing clawbacks in a major report on social assistance reform released last year by Frances Lankin and Munir Sheikh.

Hudak further alleged that employment plans will be articulated for each welfare recipient, while keeping in mind to recognize their “challenges and circumstances.” The policy paper mentioned that “in order to receive income support, recipients will be expected to participate in the activities committed to in their individual employment plan.”

  1. I wonder what resources the government will use to find these accused “free loaders” are they going to have to hire Drs to go door to door, or start required Dr notes for all recipients to confirm if these cheques are still being pacomment_ID out properly?
