The Calgary Police Service is warning Calgarians of a new telephone scam in which the solicitor poses as a police officer.

Over the last few weeks, police have received reports of people receiving phone calls from a man stating he is a CPS member working with youth education and outreach programs. The man then describes a new program for educating kids about Internet safety and attempts to solicit donations to help fund this new program.

When victims requested specific information, or documentation, the caller immediately hung up.

The Calgary Police Service does not solicit donations for programs, and people are asked to report any similar calls. Victims are asked to capture as much information as possible about the caller, including any numbers that may be visible on call display.

  1. Thanks for posting. I read a scam reported at Callercenter.com which uses a similar tactic. Could these callers be connected? You know, just like in the movies. All these bad guys, being a part of one big group. I hope they get busted soon!
