The education minister and premier of B.C. is expected to reveal an education plan on Thursday morning, which is highly anticipated to include proposals for indexing the salaries of teachers like other public sector workers. The plan will be briefly explained in an announcement in Surrey due on Thursday morning. It is anticipated that the plan will change the bargaining system into a better and more transparent model, while also creating new education fund.

This plan is allegedly based on direct feedback from extensive consultations with stakeholders, including the B.C. Teachers’ Federation, in past several months. The plan is intended to bring a long-term stability to the education system, as it was rooted from the bitter labour dispute with B.C. teachers. The president of BCTF, Susan Lambert, has already shown uncertainties regarding the plan, saying that “we haven’t heard a word from government. We haven’t had any discussions with government on this issue.” Lambert clarified that the union has submitted the proposals but so far there has been no response or attempt of initiating any sort of negations with the province. She warned that “I don’t want to negate what might be in the document but it does almost seem like posturing because we have not heard anything about it.”

While on the other hand, Education Ministry has stated that there was no need of any dialogues to have taken place as the stakeholders were only suppose to submit their proposals. Additionally, the ministry commented on the Lambert’s statement, saying that it has already committed to send her an embargoed copy of Thursday’s announcement.
