An 18-year-old Whitby man was killed and a 19-year-old Whitby man was seriously injured in a motor vehicle collision in Whitby on Thursday night.

On Thursday, February 7, 2013, at approximately 10:45 p.m., members of the Durham Regional Police Service responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a compact sedan and two pedestrians. The collision occurred on Dundas Street, just east of Hickory Street in Whitby.

Witnesses report the compact sedan was travelling eastbound on Dundas Street when it struck the two male pedestrians, who were attempting to cross from the south to the north side of Dundas Street.

Both pedestrians were transported from the collision scene by ambulance to hospital, where one of the males succumbed to his injuries. The other male pedestrian remains in critical care in a Toronto trauma unit. The single occupant of the sedan was uninjured as a result of the collision.

The road was closed for several hours while members from the Collision Investigation Unit investigated the collision. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor and the investigation is continuing.
