A Calgary man has been charged in connection with a recent fatal collision.

At approximately 6:55 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, emergency crews responded to reports of a pedestrian that had been hit by at least two vehicles at the intersection of Sandstone Drive and Berkshire Boulevard N.W. Both vehicles left the scene.

The pedestrian, identified as Wong Shuk Yee, 56, of Calgary, died at the scene.

Investigators believe Yee was struck by a southbound vehicle as she attempted to cross the road. It’s believed two other vehicles drove around the victim while she lay on the ground, before she was struck by a second vehicle. None of the vehicles remained at the scene.

Police are still looking for one vehicle believed involved in the collision. The vehicle is a dark-coloured sedan with damage to the lower part of the front bumper.

At around 7:45 a.m., police received a call from a man claiming to have also been involved in the collision.

Steven Jonathan Vanasse, 24, of Calgary, has been charged with hit and run causing death. His vehicle, a red Ford Taurus station wagon, has been seized and will undergo further testing.
