The tussling anti-corruption squad of Quebec confirmed a news on Wednesday morning regarding their investigators of the Sûreté du Québec to have arrested Paolo Catania and François Thériault, while they await to execute an arrest warrant against Antonio Catania. The three suspects are all going to face charges including conspiracy, fraud, defrauding government, abuse of trust by a public official, use of a counterfeit document and secret commissions.

Thériault has previously worked in capacity of a construction-site supervisor for city of Montreal, and recently testified last fall before the Charbonneau Commission into corruption and collusion in the construction industry. The city officially suspended Thériault from his position in early October, in sight of his name being raised by commission witness and former construction contractor, Lino Zambito. It fired him in early February. A press release from the Quebec government revealed that all three suspects will be facing investigators, soon after which they will be released on a promise to appear in court later on May 1. Antonio Catania is Paolo Catania’s father. Whereas, Thériault was taken in custody from his Laval home on Dec. 20 and charged with perjury as well as obstruction of justice.

Thériault has previously testified before Charbonneau last November, explicitly stating that affirming that he has never received kickbacks, bribes or other cash benefits in his capacity as a construction-site supervisor for the city. Later during a search of Thériault’s home on Dec. 20 by SQ, investigators uncovered evidence that he did, in fact, “receive monetary advantages relative to his residence in Laval,” and therefore lied under oath.
