Police has revealed that the suspect who entered a Gatineau, Que. daycare centre, and shot a custodian before shooting himself, was going through a rough time in his marriage. Gatineau police publicly disclosed that the suspect was the husband of the daycare’s director, Robert Charron.

Police record revealed that the daycare staff called in at 911 at 10:27 a.m. ET on Friday, asking them to assist at 225 and 229 Gamelin St., where a man was threatening people. The Gatineau police Chief, Mario Harel, informed media sources at 2 p.m. during a news conference, that police reached the crime the scene at about 10:30 a.m. Upon entering the premises, officers promptly recognized a man lying on the floor with a shotgun beside him. Even though police has not officially confirm that Charron was the shooter, it has exposed that he and his wife were going through a break up in their relationship. The body of another man was found in another building at the same daycare, although his identity is being kept a secret because his relatives are not yet notified.

Gatineau police spokesman, Sgt. Jean-Paul Le May, explained that children and staff were quickly shifted to a neighboring house, where food was provided until parents arrived. Harel also acclaimed that the neighbors and daycare staff reacted well to the situation. Initial reports inaccurately alleged that only one person was found dead at the scene, whereas entire staff and all children are completely unhurt.
