Calgary Mayor, Naheed Nenshi, has demanded an open investigation into a disturbing video which allegedly depicts a plan of controlling the decisions made by the city council regarding new housing. The video obtained by several media outlets displays a meeting, dated back to last November, when multiple people are devising a plan of deliberately defeating the members of council who are being perceived as anti-development.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi has claimed that he believes the video displays several things that might be considered in violation of election laws. Ald. Andre Chabot has alleged that the video is very disturbing, in case there’s intent to control members of council. The video depicts a Calgary home builder categorizing different aldermen into the list of those who he approves of and those who he intends to support with campaign donations in this fall’s municipal election. The video absurdly entails direct names of several current and former municipal and provincial politicians.

Nenshi stated, while complaining about the video, that “when you see this live, captured on tape in this way, it’s very distasteful.” He explained “and as viewers watch this, I think they will agree this is shadowy, weird and unpleasant.” He added that “I have no idea what this small group of extremely wealthy individuals is so mad about. Our housing starts are really healthy. They all admit the industry is extremely profitable.” Nenshi further clarified that he works with his aldermen on a daily basis and he’s pretty confident that neither one of them can be bought.
