The B.C. Conservative Party has fired yet another candidate due to inappropriate remarks. Their candidate for Boundary-Similkameen, Mischa Popoff, was dropped from the party on late Thursday citing his erroneous remarks, which the party considers “insensitive and disrespectful” to women and single mothers. Sources revealed that Popoff declined to apologize for a newspaper article in which he condemned single mothers for having children “without a man at their side.”

Popoff allegedly referred to the Missing Women’s Inquiry as “a waste of time.” In a party statement issued shortly after the news, it was stated that “Mr. Popoff’s various comments were insensitive and disrespectful, particularly to women and single mothers who are, in fact, heroes to their children and their communities in many cases. We are a party that believes in a respectful airing of views.” This news has comes only two days after another candidate, Tootill, was laid off by the party as well. The Vancouver-False Creek candidate was fired on Wednesday due to his “shameful” and controversial comments over Twitter regarding Hitler and the rise of Nazism.

It was discovered that Tootil sent a tweet in October 2012, saying “who’s really to blame? Hitler or the people who acted on his words?” and in May 2011 he posted a derogatory comment about women. A highly ranked Party leader, John Cummins, condemned these incidents and attributed them to be “downright shameful,” while alleging that such disrespectful comments will not be tolerated by the party. Popoff is the third candidate to be removed from the party this week.
