Edmonton police cracks down on escorts

An escort sting involving members of the EPS Vice Section and City of Edmonton bylaw officers has resulted in 17 people being charged and $90,000 in fines being handed out. The sting took place in the downtown core and the westend on Wednesday, June 16 and Thursday, June 17.

This is part of an ongoing effort to crack down on unlicensed escorts. Acting Staff Sergeant Steve Crosby of the EPS Vice Section says, “We have several stings, several times a year and they can occur anywhere in the city. The problem of unlicensed escorts is an ongoing issue, and we have to stay vigilant. Ultimately, we are concerned for the safety of the men and women who are working as unlicensed escorts.”

On Wednesday, June 16, seven unlicensed escorts were charged as well as two unlicensed drivers. They received tickets totaling $47,500.00. Two warrants were also executed.

On Thursday, June 17, six unlicensed female escorts and one unlicensed male escort were arrested along with an unlicensed driver for a total of $42,500.00 in fines. Three warrants were also executed.
