On December 11, 2012 the BC RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, with the assistance of the BC Integrated Sexual Predator Observation Team (ISPOT) and members of the North Vancouver RCMP Detachment executed a search warrant at the residence of Ian Ruddle, in North Vancouver. Ruddle was not home at the time of the warrant execution and a Warrant of arrest was sought and granted. What Ruddle did not know is that the 14 year old female that he was communicating with was in fact a police officer from the RCMP Child Exploitation unit.
On December 16, 2012 Ruddle, who was out of the country, was arrested entering Canada by the RCMP ICE Unit without incident. Ruddle was held for court and charged with Lure a Child Via Computer, Section 172(1)(B) of the Criminal Code. He was later released from custody under strict conditions, including no contact with any children under the age of 16.
Ruddle’s next court appearance is set for May 9th, in North Vancouver.
The Integrated Child Exploitation Unit continues to remind parents and children to be aware that these predators are present online and that they will not hesitate to engage children in conversation for their own sexual gratification
