In a second shooting at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre, located in north Toronto, within less than two months one man suffered gunshot wounds and was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police reported that the shooting took place at the Joey Yorkdale restaurant, located inside the mall, soon after midnight on Saturday. Investigators informed CP24 that the victim was present inside the restaurants when the shots were fired from outside the restaurant.
Police suspects that the victim was a client of the restaurant, while they seek suspicious silver Honda CR-V which was seen fleeing the scene. However, no suspects have been identified or arrested as yet. Even though the mall was immediately closed at the time of shooting, the restaurant remained open until 2 a.m. The shopping centre is now scheduled to reopen on Saturday as per routine normal business hours, although the restaurant will remain closed while police performs their investigation. Additionally, in an official statement, the mall management requested general public to come forward with any helpful information and contact police or Crime Stoppers.
In a written statement published by the mall, it was stated that “like all Torontonians, we are concerned about gun violence and saddened when such incidents occur in our city.” Furthermore, it stated that “we are cooperating with police and want to thank Toronto Police Service and emergency services for their rapid response.” This is the incident of shooting at the same mall in less than two months.
