A former female member of the RCMP Musical Ride has reportedly filed an extensive multimillion-dollarlawsuit in effort to sue the federal government and 13 former colleagues and supervisors, asserting that they were responsible for not addressing the issue when she was repeatedly hazed, insulted and sexually harassed. The 41-page-long statement of claim filed by the former RCMP Staff Sergeant, Caroline O’Farrell, depicts how she was abundantly dragged in horse manure and urine, suffered listening to tough sexual remarks, was bullied and taunted about a former member who allegedly killed himself after being hazed.

The court filing primarily complains about the way O’Farrell was treated in the 1980s, when she attempted to complain about the issues. The report says that a supervisor, Sergeant Michael Roblee, summoned all 36 Ride members and admonished them. The report narrates that “he added that, in the past, a member of the Ride had actually been hazed and tied up with leather straps and that the next day he had jumped in front of a Mack gravel truck.”

Furthermore, the court file keeps on complaining that while O’Farrell was working in the stables, she was often commented at, for example “I know who I would like to jump in front of a Mack truck.” The lawsuit states that “she was informed by the investigators that her complaint resulted in the largest internal investigation ever conducted in Ottawa, However, the RCMP took no real or substantial action against the harassers.” The allegations have yet to be proven in court, though the RCMP has so far declined to comment on the situation.
