The Hamilton Police Service has concluded its investigation into the death of a male that occurred June 7, 2010, while he was a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton.

On Monday, June 7, 2010, a 76 year-old male died while a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital. At the time of this death, a patient from another room, a 69 year-old male, was found lying on top of the deceased. The patient was removed from the room.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit was contacted by the Coroner’s Office to assist in investigating the circumstances and cause of death. A post mortem was completed. On June 24, 2010 the 69-year-old male passed away.

A case conference involving the Coroner’s Office, the Hamilton Police Service, and the Forensic Pathologist was convened on June 24th 2010. As a result of the investigation the death of the 76 year-old patient has been ruled a homicide. The name of the victim, a resident of Norfolk County, is being withheld at the request of the family.

This matter has now been concluded. This is the City’s 5th homicide.
