The TTC has officially revealed its corporate road map entailing the intentions of the transit agency and its strategy for the next five years this week. The document, made available at www.ttc.ca, prioritizes precisely seven major goals which TTC intends to focus on from now onwards until the end of 2018. Those objectives include improving customer relations, improving service, and being financially responsible.

Making the announcement on Wednesday, May 29, afternoon, TTC CEO Andy Byford stated that “this is a bold plan and I think it will be an eye opener to the public when they realize how much is on our plate.” Even though the report somewhat combines the ongoing projects, such as the under-construction Spadina subway extension, into one extensive plan, Byford alleged that it consequently represents a fundamental change in the culture of the TTC.  Byford boasted that the five-year vision statement signifies the “evolution” of the TTC into an organization that will be self-equipped to deliver quality service to millions of transit riders.

Byford explained that he consulted with residents from all over the city and held innumerable meetings among TTC management and supervisors before coming up with the plan. Highlighting his intention to have consulted with the commission’s entire 12,500 person workforce, he alleged that “it’s a big organization and we need to explain to our staff why this plan is important, but also explain what’s in it for them.” Lastly, Byford added that five years was a “manageable chunk” and time enough to improve service as well as transform the organization’s workplace culture.
