Windsor Police have a man in custody after a robbery occurred last evening in the 1600 block of Calderwood. Just shortly after 11:00 p.m. July 11, 2010 a fare was dropped off by a Windsor cab driver at a home located in the 1600 block of Calderwood. The man went into the residence to retrieve money to pay for his fare and when he neglected to return the cab driver knocked on the door. Receiving no response the cab driver returned to his vehicle. A few moments later, the cab driver observed the man walking towards him with an axe in his hands. The man struck the windshield of the cab and the cab driver ran from the vehicle to a neighboring residence where he phoned the Police. The man then drove away in the cab.

Uniformed officers attended and received information that the cab company was using their GPS tracking system to identify the exact location of the cab. Windsor Police Service notified the O.P.P. and at 11:35 p.m. O.P.P. advised they had the cab as well as the driver on Shoreline Avenue in the Town of Lakeshore. The male was arrested without incident.

A 39 year old Windsor male is in custody and is facing charges of Robbery, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Mischief Under $5000 and Transportation Fraud.
