A woman has died after a collision in the community of Riverbend yesterday.

On Monday, July 8, 2013, at approximately 1:05 p.m., a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck hauling a trailer, operated by a 49-year-old man, was travelling eastbound on Riverbend Gate S.E. The truck made a left-hand turn onto northbound 18 Street S.E.

At the same time, an 89-year-old woman was crossing 18 Street westbound in the marked crosswalk, on the north side of the intersection. The truck struck the pedestrian and knocked her to the ground. She was transported to the hospital in critical, life-threatening condition. The occupants of the pickup truck were uninjured.

The woman succumbed to her injuries at approximately 7 p.m., that evening.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate and charges are pending.

Neither alcohol or speed appear to be factors in the collision.
