A 49 year old Vancouver man is in police custody after a 17 year old female was assaulted near Second Beach.

The young woman had just purchased a parking ticket and was walking towards her vehicle when she noticed a man heading in her direction. As she walked past him, the man reached out and allegedly grabbed her arm and attempted to force her toward some nearby bushes. He casually walked away after a witness saw what was happening and intervened. The woman returned to her group of friends and told them of the disturbing incident.

Police were called around 8:00 p.m. after the young woman again spotted the suspect on the Second Beach bike path. Two friends in her group kept an eye on the man until police arrived and took him into custody.

Vancouver Police are appealing for the Good Samaritan who intervened in the assault to contact investigators with any information at 604-717-3473. The witness is believed to be in his early 30s and was in the company of a woman and children. He was driving a grey, 4-door Honda.
