On July 9th, 2010 at approximately 02:20 hours a uniform officer was operating a marked cruiser attending to a residence on Kathleen Street, where the drug unit was executing a warrant, when he was involved in a collision on Regent Street in the City of Greater Sudbury.

The officer was northbound on Regent Street approaching Ramsey View Court when a silver van, similar to a Chevrolet Uplander, pulled out in front of him causing him to take evasive action. The officer subsequently lost control of his vehicle. The officer was transported to Laurentian Hospital receiving non-life threatening injuries. The Traffic Management Unit is requesting the operator of that silver vehicle to come forward and contact the Unit at extension 2414.

The Traffic Management Unit, through its investigation, has charged Constable Smuland with the following offences;

Careless Driving
Racing – Driving at Rate of Speed – Marked Departure.
