Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are asking witnesses to come forward after a man and woman were arrested yesterday and charged with the murder of a month-old baby boy.
On August 22, 2013, York Regional Police officers were notified about the death of a male infant whose parents had brought him to a local hospital without any vital signs. Members of the Homicide Unit assisted the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario in the initial investigation which revealed suspicious circumstances surrounding the baby’s death that was later determined to be a homicide. On Tuesday, August 27, 2013, the infant’s parents were arrested without incident for the murder of their son.
CHARGED:
– Kien Phat TRAN, (male) 21 years old, of the City of Markham
– Thi My Phuong BUI, (female) 22 years old, of the City of Markham
CHARGE:
– Second Degree Murder
The two accused have been held in custody and are expected to appear today at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Newmarket.
Investigators from the Homicide Unit would like to speak with people who knew this family or had contact with them in the days leading up to this murder.
