The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a fraud investigation. Officers from 52 Division have received several complaints involving the same individual. As a result of an investigation, two arrest warrants for fraud under $5,000 have been issued for Andrew Yakub, 29.

It is alleged that:

– he befriends his victims

– he tells his victims he has lost his wallet or has recently had it stolen

– he asks his victims to help him by depositing his pay cheque into their bank account

– he then hands them an empty deposit envelope which they deposit

– the victims withdraw the funds they believe they deposited and give them to Yakub, sustaining a financial loss

Andrew Yakub is known to frequent the downtown core, particularly Chinatown and the Eaton Centre area.

He is described as brown, 5’10”, 220 lbs, with a heavy build. He has black hair and has been known to be either clean-shaven or wear a goatee.

Police believe there may be more victims.
