Suspect Michael George Delday charged with first degree murder

The Calgary Police Service has charged a local man in connection with a 2012 homicide.
 
At approximately 1:45 a.m., on Saturday, March 17, 2012, police responded to reports of an altercation inside the Sunset and Vine Pub at 2220 68 St. N.E. Upon arrival, a man was found in medical distress, suffering from apparent stab wounds. The man died at the scene.
 
Witness accounts indicate that the victim, Mario Alberto Gomez, 23, was standing inside the bar when he became involved in an altercation with another man. Gomez was stabbed and the offender quickly left the bar, along with a group of friends.
 
Today, Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, Michael George Delday, 24, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Gomez’s death. Delday is currently in custody on an unrelated matter.
 
Police do not believe this was a random attack.
