Suspect Christopher Nicholas Cavazos charged with intoxication manslaughter

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 5900 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) service road about 2:55 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 22).

The suspect, Christopher Nicholas Cavazos (H/m, DOB: 9-21-89), is charged with intoxication manslaughter and accident involving injury in the 184th State District Court. 

A photo of Cavazos is attached to this news release. 

The identity of the deceased female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer I. Jefferson reported:

The suspect (Cavazos) was driving a white Nissan Altima outbound on the Southwest Freeway service road when he ran the red light at the Hillcroft intersection and struck three vehicles traveling north on Hillcroft.  One of the vehicles struck was a blue Toyota Camry.  A female backseat passenger in the Camry was pronounced dead.  Cavazos was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
