Retired Chatham School teacher Jim Lekavy faces additional counts on sexual offences

The Chatham-Kent Police Service arrested a retired male teacher on September 11, 2013 for historical sexual offences involving a school aged male child.   
 
The allegations were reported to police earlier this month and following an investigation, members of the Major Crime Unit arrested the man. 
 
Jim Lekavy, 67 years, of Chatham was charged with four counts of indecent assault on a male, three counts of sexual assault and one count of buggery dating back to the early 1980’s.  He was released with conditions.  
 
Yesterday, the Chatham-Kent Police Service arrested Lekavy again as a result of four new male victims coming forward.  He is now facing the additional charges of eleven counts of gross indecency, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault on a male, two counts of sexual exploitation, one count of uttering threats dating back between 1973 and 1991.  He was released with conditions pending a future court date of October 25, 2013.  
 
Lekavy was employed as an elementary school teacher for 39 years and taught at Tilbury Area Public School, Romney Central Public School and Wheatley Public School.
 
Investigators want to ensure that there are no other victims.
