On August 11, 2010, 35-year-old Maine resident Michael Beaulieu, who was wanted by U.S. authorities in connection to a violent sexual assault that occurred in Pennsylvania, appeared in court in Edmundston after having been apprehended by RCMP in Lac Baker on the evening of August 10th. RCMP had been advised by U.S. authorities that Beaulieu was believed to have crossed illegally into Canada via the Saint John River.
In addition to the charges he faces in the U.S., Beaulieu faces charges for illegal entry into Canada and illegal importation and possession of a restricted firearm. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on August 16, 2010, for bail hearing and plea.
