The body of a 53-year-old man who had been unaccounted for following an explosion at a house in Sussex Corner has been recovered from the scene.

The body has been identified as James Harvey Goddard.

A 51-year old woman who escaped the blast has been released from hospital.

Background:

A 53-year-old man is still unaccounted for following an explosion which destroyed a home in Sussex Corner.

On August 13, 2010, shortly after 6 p.m., there was an explosion followed by a fire at a residence on Post Road in Sussex Corner. A 51-year-old woman who lived in the home escaped the blast with a laceration to her head. She remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A man who also lives in the home has not yet been found.

Five nearby homes were evacuated at the time. The residents were allowed to return home at around noon today.

Sussex Town and Penobsquis Fire Departments also attended the scene. The cause of the explosion is not known at this time.

RCMP Police Dog Service, Forensic Identification and the Explosive Disposal Unit are assisting in the investigation.
