Members working out of the of the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigation Bureau have recovered an estimated $200,000 in stolen merchandise following the arrest of a 50-year-old Malton woman.

On Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members of the York Regional Police #1 District Uniform Patrol Unit conducted a traffic stop on Yonge Street at Gilbert Road in the Town of Aurora. Following a brief investigation, the driver was arrested for Criminal Code Breach of Recognizance. The vehicle was subsequently searched and a quantity of stolen merchandise was found inside.

On Friday, August 13, 2010, members of the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigation Bureau executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the accused’s residence in Mississauga. Inside the apartment, they found a large quantity of retail merchandise believed to be stolen property and a quantity of cash. Investigators believe the accused had plans to ship the property to Jamaica in 45-gallon drums for re-sale. The estimated recovery of stolen items is $200,000 and includes clothing, shoes, personal toiletries, air fresheners and sheets.

The incident remains under investigation.

• Elaine Deloris MCFARLANE JENNINGS, 50, of Malton

CHARGES:
• Breach of Recognizance
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Theft Under $5,000 x 5

Ms. JENNINGS has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket sometime today.
