A BMW swamped into the front door of a Fatburger restaurant during dinner time on Sunday, where four Vancouver police officers were having a meal break and suffered direct impact with the car resulting in serious injuries. The accident took place at around 8 p.m. on Denman Street in Vancouver’s West End, where the uniform patrol officers whose beat covers Vancouver’s downtown core were injured.

According to the description of Constable Brian Montague, the injuries were serious though not life threatening, while he elaborated the scene of broken ankles, legs and issues breathing among the officers who were hit by the car, broken glass and the wall of the restaurant. During an interview from across the street, he alleged that “it appears they will all be all right.” He explained that the BMW appeared to be driven by a 30-year-old woman, speaking of whom he elucidating that “she just, for no apparent reason, made an abrupt turn into the front of the restaurant. We don’t really know the cause of the collision.” Constable clarified that alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the crash. He alleged that the “quite shaken up” driver was shifted to a hospital as a precaution and questioning by police, because “we have a lot of unanswered questions.”

Spokesperson at Fatburger commented that “when you’re trying to have a break and eat dinner, you don’t expect to have a car come crashing through a restaurant and run you over.” He added that it was “extremely unexpected is the best way to put it.”
