The former budget chief responsible for allowing the Toronto mayor Rob Ford’s fiscal agenda openly alleged that he thinks there was something missing in Mayor Ford’s apology. Mike Del Grande was addressing reporters after a meeting of the Police Services Board on Thursday, when he alleged that he just can’t say sorry and expect everybody to move on.
Mr. Del Grande stated that “his contrition comes without penance,” and if “you want contrition, you gotta do penance.” Consequently, Grande further stressed on calls for the mayor to take a leave of absence. He questioned “how do you explain Rob Ford?” while quickly tagging that “he is one of the unsolved mysteries of the universe.” Mr. Del Grande said Mr. Ford doesn’t seem genuinely contrite. “I didn’t like him blowing the kiss,” he said. “It was a Marie Antoinette type of approach. He just doesn’t get it. This is really unprecedented territory. It’s a sad day.”
Del Grande mentioned having recalled an incident where Toronto Mayor Rob Ford invited him out at the Salsa on St. Clair Festival, where he emerged completely inebriated. He alleged that “Rob was staggering around like this,” as he leaned back , held out his hands, and lowered his eyelids to a slit. He further added that when “I asked him about it, and he said, ‘Oh, I’m so tired, I was up until 3 a.m.’ At the time, I believed him. I never smelt anything on him, never saw him take a drink. If I had known what he was up to, I would have been out of Dodge.”
