An award-winning and renowned journalist and addictions expert, Dowsett Johnston, has recently alleged that in light of the latest video recording of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, he should finally make the decision to take a leave of absence and seek help for his personal problems.

Johnston alleged that “with this video coming out it would seem that there’s more evidence that this poor man is suffering from extraordinarily complex problems,” explaining that “I’m watching an entire world laughing at him and my feeling is one of deep and profound compassion.” He admitted that “because I feel that his addiction is very public and his need for help is very evident and his situation is dire.” The video showing Mayor Ford involved in constant rambling and saying curse words against an unknown personality was published on the internet by The Star on Thursday afternoon. Consequently, more and more people are advising the Mayor to at least step away from his office temporarily to address his problems.

Addressing the press a short while after the video was published, Ford alleged that he was “very, very inebriated” when it was shot and that it was “extremely embarrassing.” Later on Tuesday, Ford also confessed that he had smoked crack cocaine at a time when he was “probably in one of my drunken stupours” after six months of denial. Mayor Ford revealed that he was not a drug addict, but aimed to curb his drinking, and refused to step down or take a leave of absence.
