Almost two years after the death of a well-known former mob boss, Salvatore “The Ironworker” Montagna, police has now arrested two more suspects, namely Steven Fracas and Steve D’Addario. Both are now expected to appear in court to defend first-degree murder charges on Thursday. Authorities have already arrested and charged five suspects in the same case, including Raynald Desjardins, who were also accused of murdering and conspiring to assassinate him.

Though born in Montreal, Montagna spent a major part of his lifetime in Sicily before he moved and settled in New York in the 1990s. After settling, he soon became associated and a kingpin in the Bonnano crime family, until he was subpoenaed before a grand jury in 2002. Since he refused to testify at the time, he was confiscated of his right to remain in the U.S. and deported back to Canada in 2009. However, his arrival in Canada took place at the time when a series of murders and assassination attempts took place among Montreal’s organized criminals.

Montagna was abducted at that time, soon after which he was shot and killed on Nov. 24, 2011. According to Police sources, Montagna attempted to escape from his place of confinement, which prompted his captors to bring him to Ile aux Tresors, north of Montreal, but he collapsed while trying to swim across the river. All other suspects in the case, namely Desjardins, along with Vittorio Mirarchi, Felice Racaniello, Jack Simpson and Pietro Magistrale, have been in jail awaiting trial since their arrests.
