Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has officially apologized for using lewd language while addressing reporters during a live televised statement. The mayor was refuting allegations that recently came to light after police was authorized to release court documents. Ford admitted that the allegations from his staffers, accusing him of using cocaine and prostitution, “pushed him over the edge.” While speaking to reporters alongside his wife, the mayor confessed that “I used unforgivable language and again I apologize.”

Additionally, the mayor stated that he is receiving support “from a team of health care professionals” though he refused to elaborate on that support. The mayor mentioned that “I wish you to understand I am accepting responsibility for the challenges I face. I ask you to please, please respect my family’s privacy.” Prior to this confession and apology, the mayor stunned reporters in the morning while he was refuting the allegations made public in police documents revealed on Wednesday.

The mayor said “oh, and the last thing was (former staff member) Olivia Gondek. It says that I wanted to eat her p****. I’ve never said that in my life to her; I would never do that. I’m happily married, I’ve got more than enough to eat at home. Thanks very much.” At the time, Ford added that “unfortunately, I have to take legal action against Isaac Ransom and George Christopoulos and Mark Towhey. I have to take legal action against the waiter who was saying I was doing lines at the Bier Markt. That is outright lies. That is not true.”
