As previously released, on August 27, 2010 at approximately 1:55 a.m., Uniform members were dispatched to the area of the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.

Attending members located Derek Robert SPENCE, 24 years with an upper body injury consistent with being stabbed. He was conveyed to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to injuries sustained.

The investigation has revealed that the victim became involved in a dispute with a male acquaintance after which time he was robbed and physically assaulted to the upper body. A short time later the victim encountered the male again where a second confrontation commenced. It was during this time a third male intervened and allegedly stabbed the victim to the upper body.

Emergency personnel were notified and the victim was conveyed to hospital.

Several people were interviewed regarding the incident. A 23 year old male has been arrested; he is facing a charge of Manslaughter.

He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
