Commenting on an assertion made by Toronto Mayor Rob in a televised interview, blaming that a high-ranked police investigation into his activities was politically motivated, Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly stated that Ford was “dead wrong” in doing so. Mayor Ford alleged during the interview that he believes Toronto Police Chief, Bill Blair, has authorized the criminal investigation in revenge of him trying to propose a series of budget cuts.

Addressing reporters at city hall on Tuesday morning, Mr. Kelly stated that “it would appear to be the classic response where rather than addressing issue itself he is attacking the person who either raised the issue or is associated with.” He further added that “it is not only regrettable but I think it is dead wrong.” Mayor’s brother and a council member, Doug Ford, has previously critiqued Chief Blair’s his role in the investigation, while also demanding him to give up his position, but the accusations made last night were much more serious.

In addition to that, Mayor Ford alleged that he believes police “used” his friend, Alexander Lisi, as a “prop” to justify keeping him under surveillance. However, Lisi was formally charged with extortion in connection with his supposed attempts to recover a video believed to show Ford smoking crack cocaine and making homophobic and racist comments. In his remarks during the show, Mayor Ford stated that “I definitely think this is political,” adding that “I think they used Lisi as a prop to get to me and that is pretty well it.”
