The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that occurred yesterday.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, emergencypersonnel responded to a collision in the west bound lanes of Glenmore Trail S.E., approximately 300 metres west of Deerfoot Trail.

A Dodge Ram truck had been travelling eastbound on Glenmore Trail, when it appeared to lose control. It crossed into the centre median, into the path of a tractor-trailer unit that was in a westbound lane.

The two vehicles collided, rotating the pick-up truck into the right hand westbound lane.

Two children who were seated in the rear of the Dodge Ram were taken to hospitalby EMS. A one-year-old boy was pronounced deceased a short time later. A four-year-old boy remains in hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to a local hospital with seriousinjuries, and has since been released.

At this time, it is believed that excessive speed for the road conditions was a major factor in this collision.

Alcohol and drugs were not involved.
